Bill recently signed with Blue Mountain Artists.....a very respectable International Booking Agency. High praise to Hugh Southard and his staff at Blue Mountain Artists for the wonderful job they are doing getting their artists out on tour.
Also, Big Bill has a new cd in the works. Special thanks to Bob Margolin (Producer) and Brian Bisesi (Co-Producer) for their hard work in selecting and preparing great songs to be recorded on this new cd.
The title cut from Big Bill's debut CD, "Rising Son", was included in the Sound Track of the Motion Picture, "A Love Song for Bobby Long," starring John Travolta.
Where did Blues music originate? Most experts agree that Blues Music originated in the deep south. Slavery as brutal as it was is directly responsible for the birth of the blues. Indeed, Black folk could be heard singing in the fields as they worked. When they were not working in the fields they would get together, usually on a Friday or Saturday night, for music and fun. This tradition still exist to some degree today. Pinetop Perkins exclaims to the crowd before he plays, "I am the blues."
Like the mighty Mississippi river, blues music keeps on flowing and will do so for the next 1000 years. We should have a special respect for the old blues guys that carry the torch today. Some of these legends are still with us. Pinetop Perkins, James Cotton, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Bob Margolin, Willie Smith and many others are still touring. These guys are the real deal and deserve a great deal of respect. If you ever have an opportunity to catch them live, by all means. Go! Unfortunately, some of the legends have passed on and cannot be seen in person...can only be heard through their recordings they left behind. We recently lost another blues legend...Johnnie Johnson. Johnnie Johnson is recognized as the one of the world's greatest blues pianists and the founding father of Rock and Roll. In 1955, he teamed up with Chuck Berry and together they created a string of hits including "Johnnie Be Goode", "Roll Over Beethoven", "Wee Wee Hrs.", "Back in the USA", and "School Days". Johnnie Johnson and Chuck Berry performed and recorded together throughout the seventies. However, as Berry's popularity grew and he began to travel internationally, Johnnie elected to stay home in St. Louis. Big Bill exclaims," I've personally felt the magic of Johnnie's piano playing. We jammed together on several occasions none of which I will ever forget. After the music, I was always eager to sit down and talk with Johnnie about memories he had of my father, Muddy."
